Matt Harding is a 30-year-old American Internet celebrity best known for his travels around the world dancing in front of famous landmarks in various countries. Matt is currently working on a new dancing video and TVgazer.com recently got the opportunity to ask him a few questions.
Tell us the story behind your very first ‘Where the Hell is Matt?’ video.
I’d quit my job and I was on a 6 month trip around the world. I was traveling with a friend in Vietnam and he suggested I do the terrible dance I used to do at work while he recorded it with my camera. I liked how it turned out, so I kept doing it everywhere else I went on the trip.
What was it that inspired you to choose Sweet Lullaby (which is a great song) as background music?
There was a promo on the public TV channel in Australia that used the song while showing a girl ride her tricycle all over the world. I’d forgotten all about the promo, but it must’ve been somewhere in my mind, cause when I was editing, it popped up as a perfect fit.
In what ways has your status as an Internet Celebrity changed your life?
I’ve gotten sponsorship to keep making new dancing videos. I’m able to travel for a living. What could be better than that?
Will you produce any more videos, and if so what will you do different this time around (any new destinations)?
I’m working on a new one right now. I’m inviting people to come out and dance with me this time, so it won’t just be me anymore. It’ll be crowds from all around the world.
You are quoted saying: “I am not spending 2 years of my life designing a game where you just kill everybody. I quit.” So you are back to designing videogames? Is Dancing Matt in a happy place right now?
Not sure where you got that quote or where you heard I’m designing games again. I may have said something similar to that, but I’m certain those aren’t my words. And I haven’t worked as a game designer in about two years. I’m working on the new dancing video. And yes, I’m in a very happy place.
