

Well, here comes that time of the year again, it’s time for the Sports Personality of the Year again, and, TVGazer.com has the inside track.
If anyone who is not in the UK is wondering what the heck I am talking about, this award is given to the Sportsmen who has performed the best throughout the year. Other than the main award; there are other prizes given for the Young Sports Personality of the year, Best Team, Lifetime Achievement award and the Unsung Hero award.
The awards usually take place in December, and is presented by celebrities such as Gary Lineker and Sue Barker, and this year the awards will be held in London, on 9th December 2007.
Last year saw Royal, and Horse-Rider Zara Phillips given the award after a great year for herself, beating off competition from others such as Wayne Rooney, and Rodger Federer.
After the BBC asked the opinion of the readers of over 30 national newspapers, they have finally come together and drawn up their shortlist, which consists of the following sports stars; Formula One ace Lewis Hamilton, boxers Ricky Hatton and Joe Calzaghe, plus athletes Paula Radcliffe and Christine Ohuruogu are among the contenders. Golfer Justin Rose, motorcyclist James Toseland, tennis player Andy Murray and England rugby stars Jonny Wilkinson and Jason Robinson complete the candidates.
The Bookies are predicting a tight race between Lewis Hamilton and Ricky Hatton, with Hamilton expected to win, after is stunning performances, managing to finish 2nd in the Gran Prix, in his rookie season; although, Hamilton was shocked to even be considered for the award. “I’m completely shocked by all the awards and nominations I have received. Never in a million years would I have thought I would have won so many.”
